Bio

Olli Moilanen (1987-) is a Finnish composer. He is currently interested in investigating the musical properties of different musical styles or characters, and crafting compositional materials this way. Moilanen describes improvisation with different instruments as a source of inspiration for his compositions. As a composer he also finds fascinating working in cross-art projects and performances; he has worked with poets, dancers, screenwriters, visual artists and theatre directors.

Moilanen is currently studying composition in Sibelius Academy with Veli-Matti Puumala. His composition Ruskan värjäämät lehdet for mixed choir was part of Nordic Music Days 2018, performed by Helsinki Chamber Choir. His composition Siivekkäiden loitsuaja for mixed choir has been awarded shared 1st prize in International VocalEspoo Choral Composition Competition 2014. Recently he was selected to Sinfonia Lahti Taimitarha- project in which 5 composers at the start of their career was selected to write a 10 minute piece for orchestra: his latest composition Väylät will be premiered by Lahti Synphony Orchestra in Autumn 2020. His commissions include also Jyväskylä University Promotion Cantata Valonpaisumus. SULASOL publishes his vocal scores. Moilanen’s music has been performed besides Finland in many European countries and in Kenya and South-Africa.
